Five Crucial Factors to Think about When Buying a Dining Room Set

In some homes with small children, the sofa and the coffee table in front of the television can usually act as their dining room. However, as the kids grow older, they need to have more formal dining space for family dinners. Buying a dining room set is a major decision that a homeowner can make. If you are on the market for this set, you must consider the following when shopping:

Available Space

Consider the space available for the dining table. Draw out the dimensions of the first. You must allow 42 inches to 46 inches of space between the table and the edge of the wall. This way, a person can rise comfortably and push their chair away from the table.

Flow of Traffic

Think about where traffic enters and exits the room. Ensure the hostess has enough room to move around the table. Also, consider if you want to serve family style or will your guests serve themselves. You will need more traffic space if your family and friends need to get up and down.

Size of the Table

Look at a table that is at least 36 inches to 42 inches long to accommodate serving dishes. But, if you don’t need to get a big dining table now; however, would occasionally like to get one for special occasions, chose a table with at least one extension.  To ensure your guests are comfortable, allow 24 inches of table space per person around the table. Allow for 30 inches for more elbow room. Consider the number of people who will often sit at the table.

Height of the Table and Chair

The majority of tables are 30 inches tall. The chair’s height is generally around 18 inches from the floor. Usually, the distance from the tabletop to the chair seat is at least 12 inches. You can also find counter-height tables (36 inches) or pub-height tables (42 inches). They are suitable for more casual environments.

Take and Chair Design

Choosing a custom table lets you pick the leg style that suits your style preference and entertaining needs. A pedestal style base offers more seating space because people don’t have to struggle with the table legs. In terms of picking dining chairs, think about your preferred style and comfort. The chair’s back and the seat width will determine how comfortable the chair is. For small space, a bench is a famous option because it can slide under the table when not in use.
